For starters, I love technology. I think that technology is a great asset to many people's lives, and it has provided many career paths for different people. It is a wonderful way to find out anything that you may need for a school project, work, or personal knowledge. It is a very efficient tool, but when used improperly it can harm one's development.

My stance

According to MakeUseOf "Research at Harvard and Rutgers University shows that receiving a Like on social media, participating in sharing information about yourself, and interacting with loved ones online all activate the dopamine system in your brain." While I found this very interesting, I also found in the same article that on average adults spend 37 percent of their time at work on social media. I think this is a huge issue as in 3 days you have essentially wasted a whole day that you could have been using to work. Furthermore, I think that advancements in technology are a great thing, but when they are made to be addictive and to keep people entertained is a grave mistake.

This does not apply to just social media, I think this can apply to a lot of things including the development of future generations. According to Forbes "Teenagers on average spend more time on social media than homework." I think this is a big issue in teenagers actually learning what teachers are teaching them. There is a big difference between learning something and doing something in school as most teenagers don't enjoy school as is, and I think that when they have distractions readily available it creates a bad environment for overall learning and mastery.

Technology is what a lot of us rely on to communicate with friends, but as more people become reliant on technology to make friends, it leads to a decline in social skills throughout the generation. According to Brookwood.edu, "In response to my question about what the students valued about the technology they used, one kid said that he liked the fact that he could break up with his girlfriend via a text rather than in person." I think this is an issue that teenagers don't want to face their issues firsthand and would rather deal with it in an easier way.

Conclusion

Technology is an amazing addition to our lives. It creates many different opportunities, memories, and jobs that would not be available otherwise. Technology is a great part of society, but when misused it can create issues within our culture.
